Therapeutic Orientation

Poet Nayyirah Waheed, speaks beautifully to the complex process of self exploration and healing within her work therapy, in her book of poems salt.:

“the hard season
will
split you through.
do not worry.
you will bleed water.
do not worry.
this is grief.
your face will fall out and down your skin
and
there will be scorching.
keep speaking the years from their hiding places.
keep coughing up smoke from all the deaths you
have died.
keep the rage tender.
because the soft season will come.
it will come.
loud.
ready.
gulping.
both hands in your chest.
up all night.
up all of the nights.
to drink all damage into love.
—  therapy

I believe awareness is gained through compassionately and curiously exploring the interactions between our inner and outer worlds. Weaving our past, present and future’s together in a web of multi-faceted understanding is where important conversations happen within our selves and real change becomes possible.

Therapy is the means through which the knots and twists of your life are felt, worked out and navigated through...

In our sessions, we will work together to:

  • Grow your capacity for tolerating and negotiating with a wider range of emotions and interactions

  • Develop healthy and effective coping skills

  • Manage transitions and tension with careful consideration of the impact of how we treat ourselves and others

  • Identify false beliefs and harmful self talk and work to replace them with loving and grounded alternatives

  • Restore relationships. You with yourself, and you with others.

  • Increase your understanding and awareness of how you relate to yourself and others

  • Enhance your ability express what you feel and communicate what you think at the same time!

We will explore your past,

what is currently going on in your life,

and what you hope for your future.

It is through our unique therapeutic relationship, curiosity, conversation, feelings, and reflection that we will learn more about your interactions, desires, preferences, hopes, fears and needs, all of which give meaning to your everyday life.  I believe that people change through relationships and when their mind, heart, body and soul are connected.
